Summary:  Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in packaging products and materials for storage or shipment by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  1. 1. Safety:  Direct monitoring, training, implementation, and communication of safety policies and procedures specific to the packaging department.  Will also inspect and report on other areas within the facility.

  2. 2. Leads Employees:  Safety, training, scheduling, staffing levels, evaluations, and discipline consistent with Harry’s policies and procedures.

  3. 3. Guide the lean initiative for Lean Manufacturing principles in packaging:  Work with the Packaging Lean and Green Team to effectively monitor, train, implement, and communicate Lean principles within the packaging department. As part of Harry’s leadership team, will participate with other Lean Teams within the facility.

  4. 4. Full knowledge of machinery and equipment operation:  Responsible for proper set up and operational procedures for all equipment within the packaging department

  5. 5. Responsible for managing the packaging operation within budget to include labor, materials, and waste.

  6. 6. HACCP Documentation:  Full knowledge of HACCP procedures and documentation requirements in packaging to include monitoring, training, implementation, and communication of HACCP procedures specific to the packaging department.

 

Other duties may be assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages three subordinate supervisors (Assistant Operations Managers) who supervise a total 98 employees in the Packaging Department.  Is responsible for the overall Safety, Planning, Training, and Performance of the Packaging Department across all 3 shifts, and provides direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
